FAQ’s

Unless you’re taking the Auto Train, plan to arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled departure. If you need assistance with baggage and/or ticketing, we recommend you arrive 60 minutes early. There are special boarding procedures and check-in times for Auto Train, so passengers should arrive at the station at least two hours prior to departure.

If your station has a lounge, and you are traveling in a Roomette or Bedroom, you can store your luggage for free in the lounge. To learn more about at-station baggage services and storage, visit https://www.amtrak.com/onboard/baggage-policy/at-station-baggage-services.html

Speak to the staff at the station. They can get you rebooked on the next available train and most likely provide a hotel voucher if needed. If a voucher is not provided, keep your receipts to submit to your insurance.

Boarding gates are usually posted 15 minutes prior to a train’s departure. Many stations have monitors and signs that display the boarding gate locations for each train. At many stations, Amtrak customer service representatives will make announcements about boarding times and gate locations.

The Auto Train is only accessible from its two stations in Lorton, Virginia (approximately 30 minutes from Washington, D.C.) and Sanford, Florida (approximately 30 minutes from Orlando) and departs daily from each station at 4 PM with an arrival of 9 AM the following morning. Instead of being stuck in traffic on I-95, you and your vehicle could get carried away on the Auto Train. Simply pack your car with everything you need for your trip between Lorton, Virginia and Sanford, Florida and leave the driving behind.
